A Peek Into My Daily Routine

One of the biggest challenges to being healthy is time. We are all short on time, and studies show that we will revert to using what is convenient over and over, even when what is convenient many times is wreaking havoc on our health.

I am a big fan of the compound effect, and gradually adding in healthy habits over time in order to combat our laziness. We have good intentions, but many times our plans get derailed for the sake of convenience.

By taking baby steps, we can make lasting changes.

Over the course of the last two years, I have developed a routine that works for me and my schedule. It changes frequently because (1) I research topics constantly and am adding to or taking away from my habit list all the time, and (2) life changes…kids grow up, sometimes work is more taxing than other times, or maybe our schedules get changed. Your routine has to be flexible if it is going to be a lifestyle change.

That being said, here is what my routine currently looks like. Keep in mind that my kids are in school and I have a pretty flexible job. If you would like to add any of these habits to your routine, be my guest, and of course make it fit your lifestyle.

My Daily Routine

  1. Wake up and start oil pulling for 20 minutes with coconut oil. While I am doing this, I also get the kids’ breakfasts, make school lunches on school days, make sure they are ready to go, make lemon water for me and my husband, and get ready to take the kids to school.
  2. Wash my face, and (maybe) put on makeup with safer products.
  3. Drink lemon water. At this point, I spit out the oil, rinse my mouth out, and drink the water on the way to school.
  4. I take my supplements, including magnesium, after I get back.
  5. I drink Keto OS. It gives me lots of energy and a great feeling of well-being.
  6. Diffuse essential oils. I love citrus oils or ones to help me concentrate!
  7. Get some work done! I use my Fit & Healthy Planner (get it free here).
  8. Make a healthy lunch, including (most days) bone broth. You can make it or buy it online, depending on your budget and/or time constraints and cooking ability. I buy it at Paleo On the Go or Thrive Market right now, but it is on my list make at some point. Baby steps!
  9. I workout using a Beachbody program. Right now, I am doing The Master’s Hammer and Chisel, and I am really enjoying it.
  10. I shower using my DIY body wash and healthy shampoo and conditioner from BeautyCounter.
  11. Get some more work done. Maybe even write a blog or two or schedule my social media
  12. Welcome the kids home from school and help out with homework if needed. 
  13. Start dinner. Put kids in bed. Relax with my husband. 
  14. Try to go to bed early to be ready for tomorrow. Sleep is so important!

For a long time, I had trouble with keeping up with all of this, and especially didn’t want to write the same things down every day on my planner (oil pulling, lemon water, workout, etc). I found this awesome app called Productive, and it has really helped out a lot, especially with taking supplements. I really tend to forget to take those! It is free for up to 5 habits, but only $3.99 for the full app, and for me it has been worth it. I especially like seeing “perfect” days and the streaks you can get on doing a habit regularly. It can also give you reminders! The app pairs with my competitive nature well. 🙂

    People always make such an argument that there is not enough time in the day to do the types of things that you are doing. I always say that if you have a routine you can stick to, you will be better off in the end. That Productivity app works like a charm and you are right, sleep is very important!
